Photojournalism: Honorable Mention 2024 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Life as a monk is anything but easy. Towards the evening, when the flow of tourists in the famous temple of Wat Arun in Bangkok / Thailand dries up, the monks clean and prepare the complex again.
Immersed in prayer and deep meditation during the day, the monks have to do heavy gardening work for several hours in the evening. Not an easy task in very high temperatures and extreme humidity.
After the work is done, the monk's trainer inspects the daily work of his subjects. Satisfied, he suddenly turned in my direction, resulting in the photo shown.
AUTHOR
I’am a travel and landscape photographer. I’am based in Cologne / Germany and my journey into photography actually started way before I ever picked up a camera. I was actually always into art and drawing and that’s pretty much what I was focused on throughout school. As a photographer I love the challenge of trying to include just enough subjects into the frame to plant a seed of a story and then make the viewer to imagine the rest. I want my viewers to feel like they are right in the middle of the scene.
