Portrait: Honorable Mention 2024 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
“This portrait symbolizes the courage to reflect on and embrace oneself as they age. In Japan, many people often hesitate to stand in front of the camera as time passes, avoiding the gaze upon a changing self. This reluctance stems from a perception that associates aging and physical changes with a decline in beauty. However, this image highlights the inherent beauty etched into faces and bodies as they tell the stories of a lifetime, emphasizing the importance of self-acceptance. Just as aging is often viewed as richness and pride in many parts of the world, this portrait depicts the peace found in embracing age as a mark of dignity and grace.”
