Portrait: Honorable Mention 2024 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Mundari Warrior. This photo is a part of a long term photographic and etnographic project „ Dying tribes” relised since 2013. Last trip "At the two banks of the White Nile River" was photographic expedition to South Sudan. I spent days living with Mundari, look at their lifestyle. Before I made this portrait I drunk with my model a pot of worm milk mixed with blood to prove I'm a real man. Coexsiting together in their enviroment allows me to participate in their rituals then I became more trustable. I feel happy when I could touch spirituality of my models. I have been told that he is one of the best wrestler in his tribe. His face shows strenght and ritual scarifications complete the image of a strong personality. That kind of scar is familiar for Mundari. It show two or three parallel lines which are the symbol of horns from cows. Mundari are great warriors but they are friendly and cow oriented. They biggest treasure are cows.
