I am a.... by Mari Inagaki (United States)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Striving to wear the persona of the ideal woman—perfect and compliant—a guise that my inner self fought to shatter. Yet, the true self is not found by merely removing the mask. It must be excavated. This photograph is a mirror of that process: a confrontation and integration with the shadow I once denied.
AUTHOR
After gaining 20 years of practical experience as a photographer, I have once again learned that photography has the power to influence and impact the world around us. In our society, often the strong survive and the weak are discriminated against and eliminated but a wide variety of people coexist in this world and I would like to apply the power of photography, which has an instantaneous visual and social impact, to promote to create a society where people who are considered minorities are not excluded or marginalized and they can participate effectively.
