AUTHOR
Mieke Posthumus is a Dutch photographer whose work explores the relationship between beauty and essence. Educated at Fotoschool Statief in Utrecht and Ziris Art & Photography, she developed a thoughtful, minimalist style that balances technical precision with philosophical inquiry.
Her photography has been featured in several group exhibitions across the Netherlands, with a recent solo presentation at Slagmaat Galerie in Woerden. Her visual language is shaped by Aristotle’s definition of beauty: that “true beauty exists when nothing can be added or taken away without weakening the whole.” This concept informs her practice, guiding compositions that are harmonious, intentional, and complete.
Essence, for Posthumus, is the quiet core of a moment—the emotional truth that remains when everything superficial is stripped away. Her images seek out that resonance, inviting viewers into stillness and reflection.
Working across natural scenes, urban textures, and abstract forms, Posthumus creates photographs that are pared down yet rich in feeling. Her process is intuitive and restrained, driven by a desire to express the unseen through simplicity and silence.
Her ongoing body of work is rooted in clarity, balance, and the pursuit of deeper connection.
