Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2025 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
"Geist" is taken from Michael Koch`s series "eternal collection" in which he photographed taxidermy specimens, skeletons, fossils, and insects from natural history museums across Europe, as well as in his own studio. These objects are presented in isolation, usually against monochrome, smooth backgrounds, removed from their institutional context. The resulting images are quiet, almost metaphysical: lifeless objects appear strangely animated, suspended in a timeless space. Rather than documenting, Koch constructs a new form of visual presence, inviting viewers to reflect on the artificiality of nature’s display.
