Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2025 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Captured at a waterhole on Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana during the dry season, this image shows an elephant in the midst of a dustbath which is an essential part of its daily routine to protect its skin from parasites and the harsh sun. I was out of sight in a purpose built underground hide when it raised its trunk and released a fine spray of dust, caught here in midair.
AUTHOR
I’m a conservation photographer and private photographic safari guide based in South Africa. My work focuses on wildlife, ecosystems and the people connected to them. I photograph both independently and on commission, either for conservation organisations or private clients.
In recent years I’ve begun offering bespoke legacy storytelling commissions for philanthropists and conservation funders who want to document and share their personal involvement in conservation work.
I believe photography plays an important role in shaping how people understand and relate to nature, and I try to make images that contribute to that process in a meaningful and respectful way.
