Fine Art: Honorable Mention 2025 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Created in 2023, this photograph is part of an artistic exploration of masculinity, time, and the silent dialogue between strength and vulnerability. Captured in a minimalist setting, it reflects on the complexities of identity and the tension between what remains and what fades.
A bare back, sculpted by light, emerges like a landscape of contrasts. The veined arm, tense yet still, reveals silent strength, a body shaped by time and experience. Yet, resting gently in this strong hand is a delicate daisy, fragile and ephemeral, a symbol of innocence held within a weathered palm.
The model sits in a state of balance between presence and absence. His gaze, subtly turned toward the viewer, evokes an unattainable elsewhere, an introspection beyond the visible. His platinum hair contrasts with the vigor of his body, hinting at the passage of time and the duality between resilience and impermanence. One arm fades into the shadows, intensifying the mystery of his posture and reinforcing the interplay between what is seen and what is concealed.
This work challenges conventional perceptions of masculinity, fragility, and the dialogue between the physical and the ephemeral. It is a meditation on the weight of existence, where strength does not negate softness, and where silence speaks of an internal struggle between power and surrender.
In "The Thorn and the Petal", the body is not just a form, but a canvas of lived experience. The contrast between the hand and the flower, the shadow and the light, the seen and the unseen invites us to reconsider how strength and delicacy can coexist.
AUTHOR
An artist in search of raw truth, this explorer of the human soul captures the singular essence of imperfection, where every spontaneity and every imperfect act reveals a striking beauty. Influenced by the emotional depth of Bacon, the chiaroscuro of Caravaggio, the visual power of Mapplethorpe, and Van Gogh’s obsession with freedom, he challenges conventions by boldly addressing taboo subjects with a sometimes unsettling audacity.
Unclassified and untamed, his art draws from a visceral freedom, with each work uncompromisingly exploring the hidden nuances of the human spirit. His portraits and scenes, straddling the edge of surrealism, blend monochrome minimalism with bursts of color, capturing silence and mystery in intense compositions where shadow and light dance with unflinching sincerity.
