Nature: Honorable Mention 2025 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
This monochrome image of a snowy sheathbill was taken in Antarctica. The sheathbill was perched on top of a small snow covered iceberg facing away from the strong winds that were blowing up spindrift as well as freshly falling snow. The background was mostly dark rocks and by exposing correctly for the almost completely white bird this threw the rocks in to dark shadows increasing the contrast in the image.
The image was taken from a zodiac with increasing strong winds and large waves so it took some time to get a number of sharp images in such conditions.
