Nature: Honorable Mention 2025 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
The exhilarating moment when the white water from a breaking wave crashes down on the intertidal zone, delivering nutrient-rich water crucial for the survival of these Sandy anemones. Water is essential to life. Unlike most other species, Sandy anemones do not seek water to fulfil their thirst. Instead, they are looking forward to the food washed past them by the rushing water from the crashing waves.
Sandy anemones can be spotted from Lüderitz to Durban along the Southern African coastline and off the coast of Argentina.
