Nature: Honorable Mention 2025 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
Amorgos, Greece. The deep blue sea.
Sometimes free diving is like flying, and the creatures you meet are just flying with you in the breeze.
This photograph depicts just that. A moment where the medium is no longer the water.
Just our imagination.
AUTHOR
I discovered photography when I was fifteen. Since then, I have been taking photos and experimenting with the medium with every possible opportunity.
Each genre is a different challenge for me, gladly accepted, and always ready to unfold new worlds.
Producing video campaigns and documentaries was one giant leap of faith, and a new love. It is a means of expression, of communicating, of being.
I studied during the period 1996-2002, at FAMU - Faculty of Still Photography (Prague), at E.S.P. – School of Photography (Athens), and at the Plakas Arts Center – BTEC in Arts & Design (Athens). I was an apprentice to Nikos Kessanlis (Rector at the School of Fine Arts in Athens, Greece) and worked in his studio in 2002-2003.
From 2003 to 2019 I worked in the Thessaloniki Int’l Film and Documentary Festival. I am a founding member of the grassroot collective “Part of the Solution” which since 2014 has been creating videos about social issues and at the same time proposing solutions for them. From 2022 I am a member of the film group “Collective Memory” as a DoP and editor, a group whose purpose is to highlight history and oral testimonies through documented facts.
During the last years I have focused my attention on landscape and underwater photography, as well as creating documentaries.
