Photomanipulation: 2nd Place Winner 2025 (professional)
Chopin's swallows. by Magdalena Jóźwiak (Poland)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
As a person who has been in love with Chopin's music for years I have been looking for visual tools to express my interpretation of the composer's music. Some photos I take remain almost unaltered but others are the result of a combination of a few photos I have taken, removing some elements, etc. I used Adobe Photoshop to combine two different photos and create the image where swallows might be seen as notes while some cables seeme to resemble the stave. As the role of silence is essential in music, here gaps between some lines of the stave reflect pauses in music. The variety, dynamism, changeability and diversity of Chopin's music were the elements I wanted to convey with the image most.
AUTHOR
I have been passionate about photography for over 25 years. I am particularly interested in landscape, still life and minimalist photography. However, I take street photos, too. My works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions. Some have been honoured in different photo competitions. To me photography is a way of looking at the surrounding reality. In fact, I would even call it a way of seeing. Exploring it makes you more sensitive, sharpens your sense of observation and helps you notice the things you would normally just walk past. It boosts your creativity and the longer you take photographs, the better you realise how much more there is left to discover and capture your attention. Even though, as many say, everything has already been photographed, I still find inspiration, sometimes in apparently unispiring surroundings.
