Portrait: Honorable Mention 2025 (professional)
ENTRY DESCRIPTION
In portrait photography, the most important thing for me is the relationship. Each time I try to get to know the story of the person I will be photographing. I want to create a bond with them in order to understand them. I look for truth in portraits. I present people as they are. Without pretense. I took this photo with a Mamiya RB67 analog medium format camera produced since 1970. In the same year, Zdzisław Marchwicki, known as the Vampire of Zagłębie, murdered the last of 14 victims. A few years later, Łucjan Wiśniewski examined him using a polygraph as part of ongoing court proceedings. The photo shows Colonel Dr. Łucjan Wiśniewski - the first polygraphist in Poland, who initiated the use of psychophysiological tests in special forces and later in criminal proceedings. In the photo, the colonel is holding a pneumograph tube - one of the polygraph sensors. Although he is 91 years old, he still teaches young generations and shares his experiences. He has a huge will to live and the strength to act. I met him long before the photoshoot. I think he is simply a good person, with a lot of experience, humble and charismatic. That is how I wanted to present him.
